OVERALL OBJECTIVE
The primary function of this position is to assist in the organization and implementation of all recreational programs and functions availed to each resident in accordance with all federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations which govern the facility, and as directed by the Activities Director and/or Executive Director so as to ensure the recreational and leisure needs of each resident is met in an enthusiastic, safe, and orderly manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
GENERAL
-
Implementation of activity programs designed to meet the recreational and leisure time needs of each resident.

Assists in transporting residents to and from programs.
-
Maintains activity equipment and supplies in a clean, orderly manner.
-
Assists in maintaining records of individual resident participation.
-
Assists with resident outings.
-
Prepares activity area(s) for scheduled programs and restores afterwards.
-
Assists in the orientation and coordination of volunteers.
-
Adheres to, upholds and enforces all facility policies and procedures.
ADMINISTRATIVE
-
Reports supply and equipment needs to the Activities Director.
-
Reports any defective, worn, broken, etc., equipment to the Activities Director.
-
Attends department meetings and/or educational programs as scheduled or assigned.
OTHER DUTIES OF JOB

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives supervision from Activities Director. Reports directly to Activities Director.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
-
High school diploma or G.E.D.
-
Ability to read, write and speak English.

Ability to follow oral and written direction.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential functions of job.

Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with residents, co-workers and others.

\Must possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in dealing with elderly and ill populations, health care providers and community services.

Must possess ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to resident information and records.

Must possess general knowledge of care and procedures used to assist residents in daily care and comfort, utilizing all safety procedures.

Must possess knowledge of and the ability to use proper body mechanics to meet physical job demands.

Must possess ability to interact effectively with residents and their families and assist in providing emotion and social support.

Must possess knowledge of and the ability to properly record, chart and document necessary information as required by established policies/procedures.

Must possess knowledge of federal, state, county and nursing home policies and procedures as they relate to activity personnel and care of residents.

Must possess knowledge of infection control and universal precautions and the ability to apply same to essential job duties.

Must possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to accomplish several duties and meet schedule of various departments regarding resident care.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF JOB

Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of the facility with a medical and physical examination.
-
Must possess sight and hearing senses or use prosthetics, which will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
-
Must be able to walk, sit for extended periods of time, bend, lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally push carts weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds.
-
Required to reach, handle and manipulate equipment frequently.
-
Moves intermittently throughout the workday.
-
Works in and around all areas of the facility.
-
Is subject to frequent interruptions and must then adjust schedule accordingly.
-
Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, reactions from smoke, disinfectants and other air contaminants.
-
May be subject to handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
-
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, blood and body fluids, diseases, conditions, etc., such as TB, AIDS, and Hepatitis B viruses.
-
May be subject to emotionally distraught residents, family members, visitors, personnel, etc. and must possess the ability to cope with the stresses of the environment.
